Infoühiskond on informatsiooni tähtsustav ja seda kõigis eluvaldkondades maksimaalselt kasutav (hankiv, tootev, talletav, levitav) ühiskond.

Infoühiskond on koondmõiste rõhutamaks info ja infokäitluse mahtude ja tähtsuse suhtelist suurenemist tänapäeva ühiskonnas. See on kõikehõlmav ning haarab kogu sotsiaalset reaalsust. Infoühiskonna peamiseks tunnuseks on arvutite massiline kasutamine ja kõikjale ulatuvad ülemaailmsed, personaalsed kommunikatsioonikanalid (internet ja sellel baseeruvad struktuurid) ning elektroonilised teenused.

Information Society is a post-industrial society in which information technology (IT) is transforming every aspect of cultural, political, and social life and which is based on the production and distribution of information. Infoühiskond on ühiskond, kus esmaseks teadmiste leidmise allikaks on internett, valdav osa asjaajamisest, sh pangatoimingud, suhtlus riiklike ametiasutustega ja erafirmadega toimub internetis, enamusel peredest on kodus vähemalt üks internetiühendusega arvuti, lapsed õpivad esmalt mängima arvutimänge ja alles siis rääkima, noored on 24/7 online suhtlusportaalides ning suur osa töökohtadest eeldab arvuti kasutamist.
